The VFN Dental Materials Testing Laboratory was established from the original technological laboratory of the Dental Research Institute, which was incorporated into the General University Hospital in Prague in September 1999 on the basis of a decision of the Ministry of Health of the Czech Republic. As of 1 January 2012, the institute was renamed the Institute of Clinical and Experimental Dentistry by an organizational measure of the General Hospital and the 1st Medical Faculty of Charles University, which became part of another organizational change from 1 September 2014. Dental Clinics of General Teaching Hospital and 1st Medical Faculty of Charles University.
Approximately two years of targeted preparation of a testing laboratory for accreditation Czech Institute for Accreditation, ops was successfully completed in March 2000 with the acquisition of the first Accreditation certificate. The necessary powers and responsibility for compliance with all accreditation criteria have been delegated to its manager.
The scope of accredited testing activities is given in the appendix to the current accreditation certificate issued by ČIA on the basis of meeting the accreditation requirements according to the criterion standard ČSN EN ISO / IEC 17025 Conformity assessment - General requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories. The management of the testing laboratory guarantees that all activities performed in the laboratory comply with the requirements of this standard, the justified requirements of customers, regulatory bodies and organizations providing recognition.
Accredited testing laboratory performs physical-mechanical tests of dental materials, both on the basis of customer orders and in interlaboratory comparisons or other research projects. It focuses on the testing of dental composite materials, glass ionomer cements, crown and bridge resin materials, amalgams, adhesive systems and dental impression materials. The test procedures are mainly based on international ISO standards adopted into the Czech system of technical standards. The test laboratory tests the depth of cure, water absorption, solubility and flexural strength of reconstructive polymeric materials, resin-modified cements, well and fissure sealing materials and crown and bridge resin materials, as well as the compressive strength of dental cements and amalgams. For dental amalgam, creep, plasticity time and appearance after mixing are also evaluated. The most demanding test in terms of preparation of test specimens is to determine the bond strength of adhesive systems to dental tissues (enamel or dentin), see Fig. 4B. The properties of dental impression materials are also tested, in particular their ability to reproduce details and the degree of compatibility with plaster.
Employees of the testing laboratory participate in a number of other activities within their working hours at the Dental Clinic of the General Hospital and the 1st Medical Faculty of Charles University, such as medical-preventive care within the provision of health services, teaching students of Dentistry of the 1st Medical Faculty of Charles University, clinical evaluation of medical devices , testing of various dental materials and cosmetics for oral hygiene by non - accredited procedures and research activity, the outputs of which are not the subject of testing in the testing laboratory.
