In terms of treatment and prevention, the Department of Neurology fulfills the role of primary general neurological care within the scope of its catchment area (including counseling activities for all VFN inpatient facilities), as well as the role of superconsiliary care for the entire Czech Republic. Thanks to the intensive care unit, treatment was also possible for patients with acute neurological conditions. At present, the clinic has achieved the role of centers of national importance in the field of extrapyramidal diseases, demyelinating diseases, myasthenia gravis and sleep and wakefulness disorders. Other monitored areas are developmental neurology and pediatric neurodegenerative diseases, neuromuscular diseases, epileptology of children and adults, vertebrogenic diseases and headaches. Of the diagnostic methods, imaging examinations (MRI - located in the clinic building), neurophysiological laboratory (EEG, EMG, all modalities of evoked potentials, polysomnography and outpatient sleep examination techniques), neuropsychological and neuroimmunological examinations are used superconciliarly.
