It is not possible to report the result of the autopsy and the cause of death by telephone. It is only possible to state by telephone whether the deceased was autopsied at the USLT, the name and contact of the dissecting physician.
Autopsy
The examining physician decides on the performance of the autopsy by entering it in the documentation of the deceased. Judicial autopsy is ordered by a body active in criminal proceedings in accordance with valid legal regulations. If there is no medical indication of an autopsy, the autopsy may not be performed. The primary ÚSLT decides on this action.
Survivors' messages (close people)
According to the law, persons close to the deceased have the right to inspect, obtain extracts or copies from medical records. According to §116 of the Civil Code, a close person means close relatives, siblings, a spouse and a registered partner of a specific individual. Other persons in a family or similar relationship (grandparents, uncle, aunt, brother-in-law, cousin, cousin, spouse, companion) are considered close to each other if the other would reasonably consider the damage suffered by one of them to be his own. The applicant must prove that he / she is close (identity card, affidavit stating his / her contact details and identity card number, copy of marriage certificate, copy of birth certificate)
Responses to written requests for information addressed directly to the ÚSLT, with credible evidence that the applicant is a close person, shall be sent directly to the applicant. If there are doubts about the credibility of the document that the applicant is a close person, the application will be forwarded to the legal department. Responses to written requests for information addressed through the Legislative and Legal Department of the General Hospital in Prague are sent back to the applicant via the Legislative and Legal Department. Information on the result of the autopsy is not given to close relatives if a court autopsy was performed according to § 115 of the Penal Code. If the case is not finally closed, the conclusions are not communicated.
Written reports
The applicant must submit a written application proving that the person is close or the legal representative of the deceased. The application can be addressed to the ÚSLT directly or through the legislative and legal department of the General Hospital. The request for a copy of the medical documentation, including the document relating to the deceased, is based on the autopsy report. An extract or a copy of the medical records shall be made within 30 days of receipt of the request from the patient or another authorized person.
1. Provision a copy of the complete diagnosis stating the cause of death, the underlying disease, complications and the secondary finding (point 1 of the report). The applicant pays CZK 400 according to the price list of the General Hospital in Prague on unpaid health services.
2. Provision copies of complete medical records. Complete medical documentation means autopsy report (external examination, internal, auxiliary laboratory examination), complete diagnosis (point 1 of the report) and all documentary documentation (Death certificate, Medical report on the examination of the deceased, Clinical report on autopsy of adults or children and possibly other documentary documents for autopsy). The applicant pays for the above services 600 CZK according to the price list of the General Hospital in Prague on unpaid health services.

Valuables, clothing - deceased persons outside the General Hospital
Valuables, including dental prostheses made of precious metals found in the dead, are recorded by the examining physician in the accompanying documentation of the deceased. Upon receipt of the body at the ÚSLT, they are registered in the Wardrobe of the deceased and then stored in a lockable box. Upon removal, they are handed over to the funeral service, which provides the funeral.
Clothing for the deceased in a coffin can be handed over to the funeral service, which arranges the funeral. The garment in which the deceased was brought for autopsy is handed over to the funeral service together with the body. In case of biological contamination of the garment, the autopsy will be decided by the performing doctor on its disposal.
Body exposure
Exposure of the body in the premises of ÚSLT is not possible. Unless the autopsy doctor stipulates otherwise, the exposure of the body after the autopsy is within the possibilities and competence of the funeral service with which the funeral was arranged.
Order a funeral
The choice of funeral service is entirely at the discretion of the survivors. ÚSLT employees are not entitled to interfere in the selection in any way. To order a funeral, it is necessary to present to the funeral home an identity card (birth certificate) of the deceased and an identity card of the person who arranges the funeral. The Institute of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology determines the levels of alcohol in the blood of living persons for the needs of the Czech Police and other entities.
